We started as a hybrid church plant between two denominations. Calvary CRC and Wooddale Baptist Church together planted Bridgewood Church. As with many start-up churches, Bridgewood began meeting in an existing building. Eagle Ridge Jr High was our original location and our first service was held on September 13, 1998. More than a dozen families from Wooddale Church formed Bridgewood’s core group and attendance quickly grew. God was showing us His heart for the people in the region South of the river and we were being changed by His love.
With growth came the need for more space. Savage was booming and areas suitable for building were hard to find. The facility search ended with the purchase of the Knights of Columbus Hall on Dakota Ave. After renovating the building, services began in our present location in March of 2003.
2006 brought a major change to Bridgewood as our founding pastor stepped down. Leadership, the CRC denomination, and Wooddale all worked together to keep Bridgewood going. God is faithful. In 2008 the Lord brought us a pastor and attendance once again took off. Soon after, however, we again found ourselves in search of a Lead Pastor.
This period in our history really showed God’s providence and the resiliency of people who are called to His purpose. Many members found themselves serving in leadership roles they would have never imagined. Several families returned and renewed commitments to Bridgewood were made. The Lord filled the pastoral role with a teacher who brought consistency, healing, and a sense of family to our congregation.
In spite of our ups and downs with central leadership, Bridgewood continued the commitment to outreach. In 2009, we plowed and divided part of our front lawn to offer gardening spaces to the community. We partnered with Holy Trinity Ministries to host a food shelf in our building. In 2010 we expanded our long-standing involvement with Dan Patch Days to offer the Tent of Hope which gives away food and clothing to area families. We love this region and God is doing powerful things here.
In the winter of 2011, God brought a new Lead Pastor to give vision to the ministry and to lead us powerfully in prayer into the next season of life at Bridgewood Church. We are moving forward and growing into a church that is ready to multiply and develop disciples across the Cities.
