I Wanna Be Like
Sermon Series 2/18/18-3/18/18
Introduction: When Michael Jordan was playing basketball, there was no doubt, he was incredible. The media challenged children with the phrase, “Be Like Mike.” The desire was to get kids to be courageous, work hard to achieve greatness, and buy hamburgers. The Bible boldly tells us to not “be like Mike” but, rather to “Be Like Christ.” God’s desire is for us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, carry God’s love and His Kingdom to the world around us, and buy lots of hamburgers. (I added the hamburger part because I wrote this at lunch time – pd)
February 18 – United With Christ
Text: Philippians 2:1
Why do Christians act, think, talk and react differently than the world around them? It is because they are united with Christ and Christ is motivated by love!
February 25 – Giving God Joy
Text: Philippians 2:2-5
What does it mean to be like-minded with Jesus? What does it mean to have the same love and same humility as Jesus himself? When this happens in us, it gives God great joy!
March 4 – The Victorious Christ
Text: Philippians 2:6-11
Who is this amazing Jesus? Why did He come to earth? Why did He die? After rising from the dead where is He now? What does this mean for us today?
March 11 – No Longer Victims
Text: Philippians 2:12-13
We tend to think that Christians are to just sit back and God will do all the work…not so. God calls us to get to work and apply His presence and His Kingdom to our worlds. The results of God’s work? Its up to God!
March 18 – Stand Out
Text: Philippians 2:14-18
When we forget about the vision of Advancing God’s Kingdom, we tend to concentrate on the little things…and then things become ugly: we grumble, we argue, we fall into sinful situations… Instead, we are to “shine like the stars in the sky!” This message will help us get on track.
